Dock of the Bay
Using a unique, organic format developed by Elena Afanasiev and Sarah Thompson, Dock of the Bay blurs the lines between comedy and drama, reality and fantasy, absurd and grounded, and delivers always hilarious, sometimes poignant improvisation.
Dock of the Bay was founded in 2018, when Elena and Sarah discovered their mutual love of improv based equally in theatrical work and absurdity. After meeting as members of an improvisational theater ensemble where they both performed and taught, Elena and Sarah performed as Dock of the Bay at multiple theaters in Portland, Oregon until their (recent!) relocation to Los Angeles, California.

HeyDay
We met at the iOWest Theater when we were formed as a house team in 2014 and we’ve been performing regularly ever since, for 300+ shows. We won the Del Close Award for Best House Team for 3 years and have performed at festivals in Orange County, San Diego, San Francisco, and Cincinnati. In addition to iOWest, we’ve also been regular performers at Second City Hollywood, Sacred Fools Theater, and Westside Comedy Theater.
We perform our original form, the Vertical Harold, developed in collaboration with our longtime coach Karen Graci. It features high energy character digressions, committed scene work, and a pretty great shared monologue opening.
We love each other, we love performing, and we love the Westside!
